Governments and councils have turned to wind turbines for a more effective approach in generating electricity. The ever increasing demand for these wind farms to be constructed puts demand on the speed that they are completed. Cunningham have several offerings to the wind farm industry but in this case study we will focus on our portable ground sheets that help in several areas of the assembly on site of the wind turbine.

Preparation for the installation of a wind farm site can take months if not years; even the roads have to be widened and other key factors when transporting the huge pieces of engineering to location. The sites can be several hundreds of acres and the ground has to be just right. A messy building site isn’t an ideal place to be laying out tools or equipment so clients have used our bespoke ground sheets for this sole purpose.

Construction workers are able roll out the large ground sheet which can be as large as 20m x 15m (most popular) or as small as 1m x 1m. Once laid out, workers can set equipment on the groundsheet which provides a clean surface. This ensures that mud/debris can’t get into their specialised tools, resulting in a clean and efficient working environment. Site managers can actually set up different areas within the site which are labelled for certain tasks or areas of assembly and we can brand the cover to segregate the different areas off.

Our groundsheets also double up as protective covers for the blades, nacelles or the tower. Once laid on the ground during assembly these items may need to be covered if the weather turns nasty. During assembly some of the items aren’t fully protected until full assembly is completed so our covers ensure sensitive uncovered items like the nacelle are properly protected from any unwanted dust when on the ground.
